Photos of original Everest explorers Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, with a Fieldtrip Supplies Cup Bag with Yarmouth Oilskins wooden slider

Everest Inspired - The small details

Did you know that the wooden sliders on our Yarmouth Oilskins Cup Bags are inspired by those on the clothing worn on the original Everest expeditions?

Pictured here in the book ‘The Conquest of Everest’, are Wilfrid Noyce and John Hunt, photographers on the legendary first ascent of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953.  While reading this book, Fieldtrip Founder Tris realised how much he loved the natural materials and heritage designs worn by these epic explorers, and wanted to incorporate this into the Fieldtrip range.

The wooden sliders were designed to complement the waxed cotton fabric from Yarmouth Oilskins, which ages beautifully over time.  Each slider is individually engraved here in our coastal workshop, with the Yarmouth and Fieldtrip logos.
